As President of Chicago Baptist Institute, I would like to extend an invitation to individuals, churches, and communities to become a part of this great Institution. Whether you desire to become a student, Board member, faculty, or supporter, we welcome your active participation.

The office of the President here at CBI works diligently to reach the goals and objectives of the Institute by:

Meeting with Pastors to accept the invitation to become a part of CBI.
Working with the Academic Dean’s office to recruit students.
Reaching out to the community to bring more awareness of opportunities and services available through CBI.
Seeking out financial support mechanisms needed to enhance the Institution’s operations.

The choice is easy – become a part of this great institution to address and meet the challenges of the 21st century. It is my desire to meet with you as you choose to accept the invitation to become a part of CBI.

Dr. Turner’s Biography

Walter P. Turner, III has served as the Senior Pastor of New Spiritual Light M.B. Church, located on the south side of Chicago, IL since 1990.In this position, he shepherds a congregation of baptized believers, who truly loves the Lord, and has established various support ministries to assist in reaching the vision. In 1997, Rev. Turner was elected as President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Chicago and Vicinity. In this capacity, he leads a large group of Pastors throughout the city to deal with the challenges that face our communities. He is also Co- Chair for Pastors4PCOR, which partners with PCORI (the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute) of Northwestern University and several major hospitals to provide health research training to churches. Rev. Turner serves as President of Illinois Faith Based Association (IFBA), which assist with community outreach and support services throughout the State of Illinois. These established faith-based entities has positively impacted over 50,000 lives annually through various outreach and human services.

Rev. Turner serves on various boards and organizations, including: The Chicago Football Classic, Next Level Health, Southland Ministerial Health Network, The Bernie Mac Foundation, South Shore Connects, Illinois Smart Solar Alliance, ICI Clinic for Substance Abuse, just to name a few. Rev. Turner also serves on the Executive Ethics Commission for Illinois.

In recent years, Rev. Turner has received numerous awards including Chicago Public School Interfaith Leader of The Year Award, Martin Luther King Community Service Award, The Keeper of the Dream Award, and the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Barack Obama.

Rev. Dr. Walter P. Turner was elected unanimously by the Board of Trustees as the 8th President of Chicago Baptist Institute in March 2020. With Rev. Turner’s vision and leadership, Chicago Baptist Institute’s rich history, and great legacy will transcend beyond the 21st Century.

President Turner received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Midwest Theological Institute of Indiana. He has also received certificates of continued education from Moody Bible Institute and from Roosevelt University. President Turner was bestowed an honorary doctorate from GMOR Theological Institute of Houston, TX. He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree. He is married to the love of his life, Lynne M. Turner. They have 4 daughters; Lauren, LaToya, Lynnelle, and Leah, better known as “The Turner Sisters,” who are National Recording Artists. Dr. Turner also has 8 grandchildren, who ARE the joy of his life!!

President Turner believes that if we are the light that shines in the community, then our community will become a place where hope is renewed, dreams are fulfilled, and families are restored.
